Ryan and Aimee outside home

A dream come true

Childhood sweethearts, Aimee Harland and Ryan Guild, have fulfilled a 10-year-old dream by purchasing a home together.

The couple, who met at secondary school, have been able to buy their first house thanks to a gift from Aimee’s mum and a £13,500 deposit contribution from Bellway.

Ryan, a 25-year-old carpenter, and Aimee, a 26-year-old primary school teacher, have bought a three-bedroom Naylor house at our Weavers Fields development in Desborough.

Aimee says: “I was 16 and Ryan was 15 when we met at Montsaye Academy in Rothwell and even back then we were saying to each other that we were going to live in our own house, have children and get married.

“We have been together ever since that first meeting as teenagers at school and now we have fulfilled the first part of that triple dream. It’s a lovely feeling.”

Blown away by the quality

The couple began saving in earnest for a house deposit two years ago, when Aimee was living with her mum in Market Harborough and Ryan was staying with his parents in nearby Desborough.

They knew Bellway were building new homes at Weavers Fields and visited the development to look inside a four-bedroom showhome in January 2024.

“We knew we hadn’t saved nearly enough money to put down a deposit, but we went along for a look just for a bit of fun and to see what a new house would look like,” says Aimee. “We were both blown away by the quality and the finish of the house and were desperate to have our own new-build home.”

There was no way could have afforded to buy this house without the help of my mum and the contribution from Bellway and we are very grateful to them for that. It was as if it was meant to be.”

Made possible by Bellway's contribution

Aimee says: “We spoke to the sales advisor who was lovely and suggested that a three-bedroom Naylor might be within our budget. The house was partly built and was only an empty shell, but when they let us look inside we fell in love with the place.

“We spoke to a mortgage broker about getting a mortgage deal, but the deposit was beyond our reach. I spoke to my mum and she said she wanted to help us with the deposit so I asked Bellway if they could contribute as I was a key worker.

“They told us that if we could put up five per cent of the deposit, which was £13,500, they would match that. With the gift from my mum and our savings we hit that total and we signed for the house. We were elated.

“There was no way could have afforded to buy this house without the help of my mum and the contribution from Bellway and we are very grateful to them for that. It was as if it was meant to be.”

"I love getting home from work and walking the dogs out on the green space opposite our house and I reflect on just how lucky we are to be here." – Aimee

Our perfect home

Aimee, Ryan and their two Cavapoo dogs – Luna and Willow – moved into their new home in May 2024.

“Having all this space to ourselves after living at home with our parents is wonderful,” says Aimee. “We both love the big living/dining room which spreads across the whole of the back of the house and has French windows out to the back garden, which was turfed for us. I like to have family and friends round and this is a fabulous entertaining space.

“I am using one of the spare bedrooms as a dressing room while we are keeping the other as a guest room for when people want to stay over.

“For me, one of the best things about the house is how energy-efficient it is and how this will help keep our bills as low as possible. The house is well insulated, appliances are very energy-efficient, we have solar panels on the roof and have an electric vehicle charging point too.

“But my favourite gadget is the Google Nest Thermostat. This connects to an app on my phone and I can control the heating from anywhere which is fantastic. It doesn’t matter if I forget to switch the heating off when I go out as I can do that on the phone, and I like being able to switch the heating on 10 minutes before I leave work so that the house is lovely and warm when I get in.

“I love getting home from work and walking the dogs out on the green space opposite our house and I reflect on just how lucky we are to be here. We have managed to keep the first one of our three promises to each other and are working on the other two.”
