Major roads easily accessible from the development include the A1, the A69 and the A694. Newcastle International Airport is nine miles away via the A1 and the A696.

There are a number of well-regarded schools in the local area. For young children these include Crookhill Community Primary School, around 10 minutes’ walk away, St Mary and St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Primary School, and Ryton Infant and Junior schools, all around 20 minutes’ walk away. Thorp Academy, 20 minutes’ walk away, St Thomas More Catholic School, less than 10 minutes’ drive away and Whickham School, around 15 minutes away by car, cater for older students. Gateshead College, eight miles away, offers a variety of A levels, apprenticeships, further and higher education courses.

For day-to-day essentials there are several shops – supermarkets and independents – along Main Road in Ryton, a short walk from the development.

Blaydon Shopping Centre, two miles away, is home to a range of stores, a large supermarket and popular food outlets. Just beyond Blaydon, the Metrocentre, four miles away, is one of the largest malls in the country and one of the most popular shopping destinations in the region. It has around 300 shops – department and chain stores, boutiques and specialist retailers – a multi-screen cinema and a variety of restaurants.

The heart of Newcastle upon Tyne lies six miles from Summerhill View. It boasts world-class shopping and dining options throughout its main commercial areas of Eldon Square, Northumberland Street and Grainger Town.

For families, Ferndene Park is just 10 minutes’ walk from the development; it has a children’s playground, grassed areas for games and a tennis court. Newburn Activity Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away, offers trampolining, a climbing wall and soft play for youngsters, in addition to its sports facilities. These include a gym, exercise studios  a sports hall with badminton and basketball courts, and football pitches.

Also in Newburn, Tyne Riverside Country Park is ideal for cycling, walking and running, with trails extending alongside the river, providing picturesque views of it and the surrounding countryside.

Community cinema Fuse in Prudhoe screens movies several times a month and is 10 minutes’ away by car. There are also multiplex cinemas within the Metrocentre and in Newcastle city centre, presenting the latest blockbusters and family films. The independent Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle presents a varied programme of classic, art and world films in addition to new releases.

The nearest railway station is Blaydon, under two miles away. From there trains run to the Metrocentre, Newcastle (journey time around 15 minutes), Hexham and Carlisle, among other destinations. Mainline services connect at Newcastle Central Station.
