Porters Grove is a development in St Leonards-on-Sea, situated on Darwell Close. It is just a short drive from the centre of town and from the beach. Hastings lies around two miles to the east and Bexhill-on-Sea, around four miles to the west. Eastbourne can be reached in around 30 minutes by car.
The nearest train stations are West St Leonards and St Leonards Warrior Square for services to Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Orpington and London. Major roads easily accessible from the development include the A21, the A27 and the A259. Gatwick Airport is around 52 miles away via the A22.
The development falls within the administrative boundaries of Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex County Council.
There are a number of well-regarded schools in the local area, including West St Leonards Primary Academy, which is less than 10 minutes walk from the development. Churchwood and Robsack Wood primary academies are also within walking distance, while St Leonard’s Church of England Primary Academy and Silverdale Primary Academy are around five minutes away by car.
For older students, The St Leonards Academy is around 15 minutes’ walk away; Bexhill High Academy and St Richard’s Catholic College are both around 10 minutes’ drive away, and Hastings Academy is around 15 minutes away by car. Bexhill Sixth Form College offers a range of A levels and vocational courses, and East Sussex College, with three campuses in Hastings, provides a selection of apprenticeships, A levels and further education programmes.
There is a large supermarket within five minutes’ drive of Porters Grove, and several more within 10 minutes’ drive. The centre of St Leonards is home to a variety of independent retailers, while nearby Hastings boasts a good selection of chain stores, boutiques and specialist shops within Priory Meadow Shopping Centre and along surrounding streets.
Ravenside Retail & Leisure Park, just a short drive from the development, has several homewares stores and food outlets, as well as being the location of Bexhill Leisure Pool.
Eastbourne, 17 miles away, is a vibrant retail destination, combining modern stores within The Beacon mall, with independent and specialist boutiques in the Enterprise Shopping Centre and along the streets of Little Chelsea, on the edge of the town centre.
Porters Grove is situated less than two miles from the sea – Bulverhythe and St Leonards beaches are just five minutes away by car, while Hastings, and Bexhill-on-Sea beaches can both be reached in around 10 minutes.
Combe Valley Countryside Park is a short walk from the development – it includes walking trails and a cycle path; Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve, six miles away, extends across 853 acres of grassland, woodland, cliffs and coastline, and is home to a variety of plants and animals. Alexandra Park in Hastings is the largest in the area, with facilities including children’s playgrounds, tennis courts, a multi-use games area, a miniature railway, gardens and two reservoirs.
Nearby leisure centres include Helenswood Sports Centre and Summerfields Leisure Centre, both less than 10 minutes’ drive away. Both have gyms, fitness studios and sports courts, while Summerfields also has a swimming pool.
Major roads within convenient distance of the development include the A21 (for Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Orpington and London), the A27 (for Eastbourne, Brighton, Portsmouth, Southampton and Salisbury), and the A259 (for Bognor Regis, Worthing, Brighton, Newhaven, Eastbourne, Hythe and Folkestone).
St Leonards has two railway stations – St Leonards Warrior Square and West St Leonards – with regular services to Hastings, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, London Bridge, London Warterloo East and London Charing Cross. Trains to London Victoria, Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport, Eastbourne and Brighton also call at St Leonards Warrior Square. Ashford International, for Eurostar services to France, Belgium and Holland, is around an hour’s drive away.
Gatwick Airport is 75 minutes’ away by car, via the A27 and the A23.
