Skelton has a cricket club, with adult and junior teams, and a junior football club. Saltburn-by-the-Sea Golf Club lies two miles from the development, and the nearest leisure centre is at Saltburn, five minutes’ drive away. Facilities there include two swimming pools, a gym, fitness studio, an indoors bowls pitch and a sports hall.
The Cleveland Way lies on the doorstep of the development. Popular with walkers this national trail is 109 miles long and stretches from Helmsley in North Yorkshire to the seaside resort of Filey. The Cleveland Hills and the edge of the North York Moors National Park, with its picturesque villages, can be reached in 10 minutes by car.
Saltburn-by-the-Sea is popular with local visitors and tourists from outside the area, especially with families drawn by its sandy beaches. The town also boasts one of the oldest funicular railways in the world – the Saltburn Cliff Lift – which transports passengers from the town to the Grade II listed pier below, and, importantly, back up again.
Marske Sands, 10 minutes’ drive away, is the place to go for water sports, including windsurfing and surfing, or just a leisurely stroll along the beach. Marske village is also home to several cafés, restaurants and traditional pubs.
